Music

Come make a joyful noise unto the Lord! Sacred music has a profound impact on the celebration of our liturgies at Holy Family. To sing is to pray twice. Our talented and dedicated ministers of music offer their talents in joyous prayer and worship. These include, but are not limited to (in alpha order): Adult Choir, Cantor Program, Contemporary Ensemble, Family Choir, Filipino Choir, and Instrumentalists.

Adult Choir is comprised of volunteer members who give of their time and talents to glorify God through the ministry of music. This choir traditionally sings at the 10:30 a.m. Mass on Sundays and at other Holy Days and special events throughout the liturgical year. Rehearsals are on Thursday evenings from 8 p.m.-9:15 p.m. Membership in the ensemble is open to all interested vocalists beyond High School, and by audition for section/part placement at the discretion of the ensemble director.

The Cantor Program is designed to help lead our congregation in prayer through song. This group meets at various times throughout the year to rehearse music for the upcoming liturgical season, and follows a rotating schedule, which is carefully balanced to meet the needs for weekend Masses and special liturgical celebrations.

Contemporary Ensemble, for both vocalists and instrumentalists, prepares a variety of music from traditional to contemporary and leads the assembly at the 5 p.m. Sunday Mass. Accompanied by piano and other instrumentalists, the ensemble explores music with a more contemporary style, while preserving the integrity and meaning of traditional music and scripture. Rehearsals are held weekly prior to Mass on Sunday. Membership in the ensemble is open to all interested vocalists and instrumentalists of at least High School age, and by individual audition. Those age 15 and above must meet diocesan safe environment and fingerprinting requirements for serving youth.

Families who pray together, stay together! The Family Choir is a multi-generational opportunity for adults, grandparents, parents and children (of at least elementary school age) to come together through the Music Ministry and sing praises to God. Family Choir is not limited to traditional families, however. The entire family of God is invited, hoping that all members of our church who like to sing, from elementary to seniors, will feel comfortable in taking part. We will sing once a month (usually the 3rd Sunday of each month) at the Sunday 12:15 p.m. Mass.

Family Choir may also appeal to those who like to sing but cannot commit to weekly rehearsals. No experience required and rehearsals will take place only once prior to the scheduled Sunday Mass, on the preceding Wednesday evening from 6:30-7:30 p.m.

Filipino Choir. Most Filipinos have a strong devotion to the Sacred Heart. They show their love and devotion through the Celebration of the Eucharist on the First Friday of each month at 7 p.m., where they provide music in Tagalog, the national language of the Philippines.

Instrumentalists add beauty and color to our music ministry. If you play an instrument, and are interested in joining liturgical celebrations, please contact the Music Office for an audition. Aside from special liturgy celebrations, instrumentalists traditionally participate in the Contemporary Ensemble.

Addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart.
