The Ministry of the Word - Readers

In the Body of Christ, there exists a wonderful variety of ministries, which are especially evident when we gather at Mass. By virtue of our Baptism in Christ, some of us are called to serve as Lectors.

The Lector proclaims the Good News of Jesus Christ during the Liturgy of the Word, making God present to the gathered worshiping community. Through the Lector’s proclamation, the Word of God is alive with power, achieving the sanctification of those to whom it is proclaimed and giving glory to God whose creative Word brought all good things into being.

Serving as a Lector is both an honor and a responsibility, and those who commit to it deserve proper training. Training is provided by the Archdiocese of San Francisco’s Office of Worship. You must attend both days of training to become certified.

This ministry is a visible part of the worship celebration, so we look for volunteers who maintain a reverent but approachable disposition, who are comfortable speaking in front of a large group, and conscious of the role of the spoken word in worship.

  • Time Commitment:  Weekly or monthly at Mass; as your schedule allows.
  • Responsibilities:  Practicing the readings in advance, lectoring at Mass clearly and confidently.
  • Training:  Training is provided upon joining as well as held periodically throughout the year.

Please contact the parish office if you have any questions and to register for training.

Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit
